Many people think that September is the slow season in Summit County, but it’s actually a great time to visit.  Local businesses run great deals, and events take place nearly every weekend.  With crisp, sunny weather and cool nights, it’s the perfect time of year to experience all the outdoor activities that Summit County is famous for, whether you like hiking, biking, or boating on Lake Dillon.  Check out all of the great September Summit County events below!

 

Aug 31 – Sep 2 Frisco Oktoberfest (Frisco) 

                Colorado’s most authentic Oktoberfest takes place on the Frisco peninsula over Labor Day weekend.  In addition to German beer and cuisine, Frisco’s Oktoberfest is jam-packed with fun including German and Austrian music, stein holding contests, leg wrestling, and more.

Aug 31- Sept 2 Copper Country (Copper Mountain) 

                Copper Country is a long-standing Copper Mountain tradition with fantastic, free, live music including the Doobie Brothers, Lynyrd Skynrd, Vince Gill, and Peter Frampton in addition to a fine arts festival and a number of kids’ activities.

Sept 1 Sunset at the Summit Concert – Kahuna Beach Party (Dillon) 

                The last day of the summer-long concert series features a musical celebration of the Beach Boys at the Lake Dillon Amphitheather.  This completely free event is the perfect family excursion with an early evening start time, views of the lake, and concessions available for purchase.

Sept 1 The Summit Foundation’s Great Rubber Duck Race (Breck) 

                Flowing down the Blue River through the heart of downtown Breckenridge, the Annual Great Rubber Duck race offers family fun while supporting a great cause.  Watch as up to 10,000 yellow rubber ducks are dropped into the river.  Prizes for the first ducks to cross the finish line range from lodging packages to snowcat tours and more with all proceeds going to the Summit Foundation.

Sept 1 Breckenridge Wine and Spirits Festival (Breck) 

                A Wine and Spirits festival has been added to the Great Rubber Duck Race this year, with proceeds going to the Summit Foundation and the Breckenridge Festival of Film.  Sample from a range of Colorado vineyards and distilleries, including the local Breckenridge Distillery, while enjoying live musical acts.

Sept 1-2 PRCA Pro Rodeo (Breckenridge) 

                New to Summit County this year, the rodeo offers bareback riding, mutton busting, bull riding, steer wrestling, barrel racing and more.  Don’t miss out on the last weekend of the season for this thrilling Summit County event – bring the whole family for an evening of Old West fun!  Food and merchandise are available for purchase.

Sept 1-3 The Gathering at the Great Divide Arts Festival (Breck) 

                Admire and purchase the works of over 100 artists in the 37th Annual Gathering at the Great Divide.  Media range from photography, painting, and drawing, to pottery and sculpture.  The festival is rated among the top fine arts shows in the country.

Sept 7-8 Fall for the Arts (County Wide) 

                Enjoy dance, theatre, music, fine art and more at the second annual Fall for the Arts festival.  With events in Breckenridge, Dillon, Frisco, Keystone, and Silverthorne, you’ll have trouble deciding where to start!

Sept 8 Fall Fest (Frisco) 

                Lumberjack shows, live music, an art show, firemen games, and woodcarving demonstrations are just some of the fun at Frisco’s newest event.  Come celebrate fall in Frisco with plenty of activities for the whole family.  FallFest kicks off Frisco’s two week-long Autumn Spectacular with events and specials throughout town.

Sept 8-23 Autumn Spectacular (Frisco) 

                Enjoy two weeks of celebration in Frisco, with deals throughout town, races, fundraisers, and the street party Fall Fest.  Businesses throughout town will be offering a variety of specials, plus you’ll have plenty of opportunity for hiking, biking, boating, and more.  At the end of the Autumn Spectacular, enjoy fireworks over the marina.

Sept 14-16 Breckenridge Oktoberfest (Breckenridge) 

                Join in the fun at Breck’s 18th annual Oktoberfest.  Enjoy authentic German food and beer plus live music and more on Main Street in Breckenridge.  Dancing, traditional costumes and family fun round out the street party experience at the largest Oktoberfest in the Rockies.
