Weather/Snowfall

It’s only fitting that this blog be posted the day our first snow starts to fall on the mountains in the high country. This morning, though only a blankets worth, everything above 10,000 ft. was a glistening white that started to sprinkle at sunrise. Likely to burn off by mid-week, the first snowfall is always a sign of what is to come in the next few months. Temperatures are dropping, the rain is beginning to cease only to be substituted for flakes of frozen water. Now is the time to start planning for your next ski trip, and it’s shaping up to be another great winter.september 23rd

According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, which has been predicting weather since 1814, this winter is forecasted to be snowier than normal. “The snowiest periods will be in late November, early and mid-December, mid- and late January, mid-February, and early March,” as stated in the Almanac. Though it is always difficult to predict weather in the high country, this is definitely a good sign to see that we are going to have at least an average winter. If more snow falls than predicted, then let it fall I say!

With the weather becoming colder and the many snow guns starting to make noise on the ski resorts, it is time to start planning your next ski trip. Whether it’s for a quick weekend visit or maybe for the season, it is best to plan your trip early. Peak 1 Express begins operations November 15th and will be ready to transport the many Colorado visitors to their skiing destination.

Last year was considered an average year for snow in Breckenridge and Summit County with over 300 inches falling and we can only hope for more. We could be in store for another great winter, so make sure to come and enjoy it as soon as you can.
