This weekend kicks off Wassail Days in Frisco

What’s wassail???

Wassail Days in FriscoWassail is a mulled apple cider that originated in England. The old holiday tradition of “wassailing” was meant to bring good health and fortune and typically involved drinking and singing. The English celebrated with wassail in hope that it would guarantee a successful apple harvest.

What are Wassail Days?

Nowadays, there are many Wassail traditions all over the world, but in Frisco, Wassail Days is a winter festival meant to put locals and visitors in the holiday spirit while showcasing Frisco’s cozy mountain charm.  Stores and restaurants along Main Street get in the act by brewing their own wassail recipe for guests.  Shoppers can buy a commemorative Wassail mug from participating merchants and at the Frisco/Copper Information Center. There’s no better way to get in the holiday spirit than to stroll among Frisco’s unique shops and holiday decorations with friends and family while sipping a steaming cup of warm Wassail. Once you’ve tried them all, vote for your favorite wassail recipe in town!  Last year, Frisco restaurant The Lost Cajun (which is now also in Breckenridge) was the Wassail Champion, but there are so many great variations that you may have trouble choosing just one as your favorite.

What else is scheduled?

Downtown FriscoIn addition to the Wassail recipes, Wassail Days 2012 is filled with fun family events and activities around town.  Saturday, December 8th will kick off with the Santa Dash for Cash on Main Street, a tree lighting ceremony at the Historic Park in the center of town, and the Best in the West Chili Contest at the Frisco Adventure Park.  Festivities continue throughout the week with multiple visits from Santa, free activities at the Adventure Park on Thursday, caroling on Main St, a rail jam and fireworks.
