As Spring is in full bloom, we can’t help but get excited about the warmer weather, and summer being just around the corner. Summit County is truly a fun-filled place where the town and resort provide a plethora of activities that everyone will enjoy.
Such as all seasonal trends since 2020; the best recommendation I can provide is to do your homework surrounding any events or activities. Please remember to look at the county’s and town’s restrictions surrounding masks and social distancing.
The mountains in the summertime bring sunshine, heat, and time to enjoy the amazing activities the town has to offer! Breckenridge has weekly events, festivals, and many attractions from hiking to mountain biking to attending art galleries.
Outdoor Activities
Hiking & Biking
–The biggest draw in Summit County is being outdoors to enjoy the wilderness and outdoors. Breckenridge Resort provides various hiking trails just minutes away from the resort. Hiking is the #1 rated activity throughout the summer and you can’t beat the fantastic views and wildlife galore!
**For both hiking and mountain biking resources, it’s best to download the app- Hiking Project & MTB Project. These free apps provided by REI give detailed explanations of nearby trails with reviews and directions to those trailheads.
–Biking is huge in Breckenridge; whether it’s cycling to cruising main street or riding downhill to trail mountain biking you will find people out and about! If you didn’t bring your bicycle, that’s okay because there are many bike shops or outdoor rental shops to choose from. The resort has trails that will give adrenaline junkies a chance to race down the slopes. All the local bike shops have state-of-the-art mountain bikes with new features and various road bikes that will have you prepared for any terrain!
The River Life
–Out on the river, you can expect to feel a nice cool breeze and get a splash of chilly water that is recently melted snow. This is your time to get out on a raft and hit up the rapids! Just down the road from Breckenridge is the Arkansas River. The river brings travelers from all over the world to test out the waters. The best rafting conditions are from early June to July due to the recent snowfall starting to melt.
–If you’d rather not risk it on class IV to V rapids, there are rivers that are perfect for a relaxing activity like fly fishing. Rainbow trout is the name of the game while fly fishing Colorado’s rivers. Try your luck at catching a rainbow trout with a local guide. Guided trips are great for a group of friends or a family. If you are experienced, a solo trip is perfect to get away from it all and get some relaxation in.
