Ski Resort Opening Days
Throughout Colorado, the temperatures are cooling, the peaks are snow-covered and the growing excitement for the winter season is almost palpable. The 2017-18 ski season in Colorado has officially begun, kicked off by Arapahoe Basin on October 13th. As the rest of Colorado prepares to follow suit, we’re here to compile the anticipated openings for some of our great state’s other resort openings. Friday, November 10th
Starting on Friday, November 10th, the top resorts in Summit County will be opening their lift lines for the season. If you have an Epic Pass, hit the trails of Keystone and Breckenridge for their opening day! Be sure to get a good breakfast in for your first day on the slopes to keep your energy up and stay alert, as opening days typically bring in big crowds. If you are heading to Keystone, stop in at Inxpot before the lifts start turning at 9:00am. Load up with the Porky’s Plate: a full plate of biscuits and gravy. If you are looking for something a little bit healthier, give the Great Greek a try. This hearty breakfast includes scrambled eggs, roasted veggies, spinach, feta and avocado. Whatever you choose to dive into at Inxpot, you are sure to leave satisfied and ready for the day on the mountain. Need to fill up before you hit Peak 8 in Breckenridge? Look no further than The Crown Coffee Shop! Get warmed up with a delicious Chai Tea Latte and filling breakfast. If you are at all into breakfast bagel sandwiches, this is the place to be. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so kick yours off with the deliciously filling Magnum bagel sandwich with egg, chorizo, tomato, greens and veggie cream cheese on your choice of bagel. If you are interested in something a little bit lighter, give the Four O’Clock bagel sandwich a try. Pick your choice of bagel to the loaded up with hummus, cucumber, sprouts, tomato and avocado. Head west down I-70 for another resort opening day – Copper Mountain Resort will also be opening on November 10th! The first 50 people in the lift line will receive a free YETI Rambler Tumbler as part of Copper’s “Welcome Home Weekend”! Opening day at Copper Mountain Resort will be one for the books, with live music from DJ Landry and delicious treats throughout the day. Fuel up for the action-packed skiing and snowboarding with Huevos Rancheros from the Butterhorn Bakery & Café in Frisco. Butterhorn’s full breakfast menu is loaded up with delicious frittatas, egg sandwiches, pancakes and more. The toughest part of your day may just be settling on one breakfast!
Friday, November 17th
Keep moving west on I-70 for Vail Resort’s opening day on Friday, November 17th! Check out the Vail Resort website closer to opening for more exciting details on Vail’s Opening Day celebrations. As you make plans for hitting the trails of Vail mountain for opening day, plan to stop by Vintage for a hearty brunch! Vintage’s Champagne Brunch is served from 8:30am – 2pm Fridays – Sundays. Start things off with the delicious Strawberry Toast, 4 slices of tasted baguette topped with fresh strawberries, bleu cream cheese, candied pecans & fresh mint, or the Bacon Wrapped Figs, black mission figs, smoked bacon, Roquefort, almonds and a sherry-vanilla honey. When you’re ready for the main dish, check out their delicious selection of benedicts and delicious hot meals. Go with the Meat & Potatoes Benedict for a meaty start to your day. This dish includes two poached eggs, sliced NY strip and hollandaise sauce on a delicious bed of smashbrowns. You can go a sweeter route with the Huckleberry Bacon. Friday, November 22nd
After hitting up opening day at Breck, Keystone or Copper on November 10th, then Vail on November 17th, continue west on I-70 for Beaver Creek’s opening day! Opening weekend at Beaver Creek Resort is not to be missed. Kicking things off on Friday, in addition to opening day, is the 14th Annual World’s Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition! Head to the village at 2:00pm to join the crowds of people who will gobble up 5,000 cookies in about 20 minutes. In between runs on the hill and cookie tasting, enjoy music, giveaways, complimentary hot chocolate and more as part of Beaver Creek’s opening day celebration! Don’t forget to grab a hearty breakfast before hitting the slopes. We suggest heading to Northside Kitchen. You can get everything from Chicken Fried Fillet & Eggs and Filet Mignon & Eggs, to smothered breakfast burritos or an egg white sandwich. Don’t walk out without grabbing a classic sour cream donut to-go!
Sunday is also a jam-packed day of celebration and holiday festivities. The 37th Annual Tree Lighting will be on Sunday, November 24th and will feature a holiday poetry contest, ice skating show and live performances. Santa will be by for Santa’s Workshop, a variety of kids crafts and activities, from 4:00pm – 8:00pm. The Ice Skating Show will be at 5:00pm, with the Tree Lighting Ceremony and a Fireworks Show immediately after starting at 6:00pm.
