Boreas Pass- Located toward the south end of Breckenridge you will find Boreas Pass. Just a few minutes up this road, you will find the perfect overlook of Breckenridge. Truly a 360 degree view. This road leads all the way to Fairplay with a few pit stops located along the way to check out some historic railroad sites. A few trailheads can also be found for hiking and mountain biking trails.
Green Mountain Reservoir – This is another beautiful, yet very convenient drive, allowing one to enjoy the mountain landscape. Only a stone thrown away on I-70 east from Breckenridge, you will find yourself in the middle of the picturesque countryside. The small country road loops around the reservoir with leisure stops to hang out on the beach, swim, partake in some cliff jumping, or boating.
Hoosier Pass – This is one of the best scenic drives around. The pass takes you to Buena Vista where a ton of fun activities await! Start your day ziplining high above the trees! Follow the adrenaline rush of ziplining with rafting on the might Arkansas River and wrap up the day with a sunset horseback riding trip. Don’t forget to stop by Eddyline Restaurant and Brewery and grab some scrumptious food and refreshing craft beer while there.
Independence Pass -Looking for adrenaline pumping kind of drive? Driving at 12,095ft in the alpine tundra above the treeline can feel like driving in the cloud, but the view up top is rewarding. On a clear day, you can see as far as Mt. Elbert which is the highest peak in Colorado. Independence Pass is also a popular rock climbing location and crags such as Classy Cliff, Master Headwall and Dragon Rock are a few of local’s favorites.
Loveland Pass – Loveland Pass is not only the gateway to
Denver but it also to an outdoorsy playground. Fullmoon skiing and hiking over the pass is popular with the locals. Wide varieties of recreations are located along the way to Loveland as well. While driving through, be sure to stop in Idaho Springs for whitewater rafting, ziplining, ATV tours, mining tours or train rides.
