It’s no secret that spring is the perfect time of year to visit the scenic Colorado mountains. Not only are the temperatures getting a little bit higher, but there’s still plenty of fresh snow on the slopes and a lot of activities going on in town. Whether you’re planning to travel to Summit County or the Vail Valley, there is something for everyone!

While Saint Patrick’s Day is technically one of the last winter holidays, it’s close enough to spring that we’re going to count it. On Saint Patrick’s Day, Breckenridge is known for decorating the town in green and gold, and you can expect to see drink specials over the weekend. It’s also very common to see green beer and modern takes on traditional Irish fare throughout the Vail Valley.

If you’re looking for something a little less green, Keystone is hosting the Rocky Mountain Country Festival on March 19th at Warren Station which will include line dancing and drink specials. In the Vail Valley, the Vail Ski Patrol is bringing their avalanche dogs to Henry’s Hut for lunch on Sunday, March 20th. If you’ve already got your trip planned, now is the time to consider booking your transportation up to the mountains. Booking early is the best way to lock in the lowest prices and secure your seat on the shuttle.

Easter is a great time to visit the mountains for some end-of-season skiing. Breckenridge slopes are scheduled to stay open until early May, so why not rent some skis and get out there! As an added bonus, when you book your ski and snowboard rental with Breckenridge Ski & Sport, you’ll get 15% off of a Peak 1 Express shared shuttle reservation! Après-ski, stay near the resort for some family-friendly activities or head back down into town for a delicious local brunch. Check-in with the local churches, many of them will offer activities or special services around the Easter holiday.

Spring Finale in Breckenridge is the best-known extended season festival on the mountain. When spring weather conditions are just right, the resort will extend through Memorial Day, and plan a festival to celebrate. Past Finale’s have included live music, competitions, and entertainment during the entire extended season! Keep in mind, the weather needs to cooperate for Spring Finale to go on, so check out the Breckenridge Ski Resort website for the most up-to-date information.

Maybe the snow isn’t your scene, and that’s all right. Visiting the Rocky Mountains in May or June might reduce your risk of walking in the snow, though it won’t hinder your views of the breathtaking snow-covered mountains. Coming to the mountains over Memorial Day weekend opens up some new outdoor adventure options for you. If you’re looking to hit the trails, check out Breckenridge Ski & Sport for all of your bike rental needs. Do you prefer to recreate on the water? Just a 40-minute drive outside of Silverthorne, check out AVA Rafting & Zipline’s Kremmling location for a family-friendly float or some fly-fishing. AVA also offers UTV rentals on 20,000 acres of beautiful mountain terrain. Want to see the world from the tree-tops? Take a day trip over to scenic Buena Vista and check out one of AVA’s Zipline and Via Ferrata adventures.

There’s never a “wrong” time to visit the Colorado mountains. You can find amazing views and friendly folks year-round, but springtime offers the perfect mix of warmer weather and glistening white-capped mountains. We’ll see you soon!
