Put on by Breck Create, The Breckenridge International Festival of Arts takes place throughout Breckenridge on August 12th-24th.  This festival includes many different displays of the arts including workshops, performances, screenings and exhibitions. With family friendly entertainment and mountain culture inspired arts there is something for everyone to check out.

Musical Performances

One of the highlighted musical performances takes place on August 9th at the Riverwalk center. The group is called The Vijay Iyer Trio. Vijay Iyer, called one of the most interesting and vitals young pianists in jazz today, is a composer and pianist who leads the group. A couple days later, on August 12th Andrew Bird will also be performing at the Riverwalk Center. He is internationally known for his talent as a singer, song-writer and multi-instrument musician. Other groups that will be performing during the week are “Tree-O” and “Chirp!”

Cinematic Art

The featured cinematic presentation will be Radhe Radhe: Rites of Holi. This presentation was inspired by Stravinski’s “Rite of Spring.” The on-screen media includes a video of the Indian celebration of Holi while being accompanied by a chamber ensemble.

If you’re interested in enjoying a movie screening outdoors, the movie Kick Push will be displayed on the Riverwalk Lawn free of charge. This film is about biking, scooting and skating and should be a very fun outdoor experience for the whole family taking place on August 14th.

Interdisciplinary

In a very unique display of the arts, skateboarding a jazz are combined in a performance called Concrete Jams: Sk8 + Jazz. Other Black, a group from Denver will be performing a funky jazz hip-hop blend while professional skateboarders Jordyn Barratt, Bucky Lasek and Andy Macdonald skate with them music. This will all be happening at the Breckenridge skate park.

Contemporary Circus

One more must see during the Breckenridge Festival of Arts is A Simple Space by Gravity and other Matters. They are a creative circus ensemble from Australia. These award-winning athletes have been a favorite in festivals worldwide. You can get a chance to check out their amazing acrobatic talent either at the Riverwalk center throughout the nights of the festival, or their teaser performances trail side on Wellington trail.

Acoustic Flow

Enjoy a relaxing morning by the Blue River combining wellness, nature and music. There will be free classes on yoga, meditation and healing arts. This will be put on through the Breckenridge Music festival and in partnership with Meta Yoga Studio. It will be held on the Riverwalk Center Lawn from 8-9am on August 10-19.

Interactive Sculpture

Thomas Dambo is a Danish artist who creates sculptures of recycled material. While the sculpture is not yet named, it is planned to be a giant on top of a hillside stacking stone. The sculpture will be created with the help of volunteers collecting scrap lumber in order to create one of Dambo’s fascinating large sculptures.
