  1. Travel Accommodations to and from the airport…

_94E2940The Rocky Mountains are very unique in that they are set far enough from the city that you feel isolated, yet close enough that they can be easily accessed. What many travelers forget is that the Denver Airport is located about 2 hours from the mountains. On a good day, with no unforeseen weather, this trip is quite beautiful and goes by very quickly. On a day with weather, this is not always the case. Renting a car on a snowy day without having prior driving experience in such conditions is not a good idea.   1. Sunscreen & Water

At this elevation, the sun is much more intense and can cause a great deal of damage. A sunburn that would normally take an hour to develop at sea level can happen in under 15 minutes up here. That being said, do not forget to pack sunscreen. In addition to sunscreen, make sure to drink plenty of water! There is nothing worse than being dehydrated and sunburned. It is very easy to get dehydrated at altitude, especially when you are drinking caffeine or alcohol.  

 

  1. Proper Clothing

cold walkThe Rocky Mountains are notorious for bipolar weather, especially in Summit County. One day it will be sunny and 40 degrees, and the next a snowy blizzard with a chilly temperature nearing zero degrees. To combat the ever changing weather and ensure maximum comfort on your next trip, devise a layering system. Thermals and long underwear are great for skiing, but make sure you include two to three additional layers for walking around town.
