In the middle of June, what is better than drinking beer and eating BBQ? Doing both right here in the Rocky Mountain town of Frisco, CO! With the 24th annual BBQ Challenge, you and your family will not be disappointed. This 3 day festival has more than just bbq to offer. Mark your calendar for June 15-17 for the Frisco BBQ Challenge. Take a 1-minute look at what this delicious event is all about:

The Frisco Barbeque Challenge, hosted by the Kansas City Barbeque Society, showcases a competition of around 100 total contestant groups of two types: product-selling teams and no-product-selling teams. Thursday night is going to start things out with a late night concert right on Main Street (remember outside alcohol and dogs are not permitted at this festival).

Friday morning is the first full day of the BBQ festival, and all the cooks will have BBQ ready around 11am. What is more exciting than watching a race? Watching a Pig Race!! The piggies run as fast as they can and jump over hurdles for you entertainment, the winners get oreos. In the afternoon you can watch a free Chef demo and tasting with the wonderful Chef David Welch. Chef David Welch had worked nine years here locally as a Executive chef at the Keystone Ranch in Keystone, CO before starting Food Hedz World Café. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon with music entertainment, while a limited number of people will be treated to a special tasting of the Breckenridge Distillery Whiskey. With their award winning hooch in 2013 & 2015. Breckenridge blend of straight bourbon whiskey was voted “Best American Blend” for the World Whiskies Awards 16.

If this doesn’t get your heart racing, then Saturday’s Bacon Burner 6k will! This 3.8 mile out and back run at an elevation 9,075 will kick off the 3rd and final day of the festival. This race has 3 waves, including competitive runner, average runner and family/walk/jog. All participants over 21 will also receive a free beer ticket to redeem at the BBQ Challenge. Later in the day they will have the award ceremony for the BBQ competition and ending with more live music and an extra Happy Hour in Frisco. Come out and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere out here in Summit County, CO.
