Driving in the winter is something everyone can be more prepared for. No matter if your car has all wheel drive or if there hasn’t been any recent snow, there are still steps people can take to better ensure safe transportation during the winter months. If driving in the winter is not of interest to you, Peak 1 Express has shared shuttle services to take guests to the airport, around town, or to other ski resorts. If you do find yourself driving in the winter here are a few helpful tips to get you through the season in your vehicle.

  • Make sure your car is up to date – If the winter months are approaching and you are scheduled for a check-up soon, make sure to do it. You wouldn’t want to push the limits past a basic check-up during cold weather.
  • Windshield wipers and washer fluid – Make sure your windshield wipers are up to date and fully functional. Ice has a tendency to stick to glass making it very hard to seesnow_driving_jpg the road without a good set of windshield wipers. In order to allow the wipers to work properly, having winter specific wiper fluid and making sure it is full can make a lot of difference.
  • Full Gas Tank – Having gas is always beneficial, but if you were to find yourself stuck in a snow storm or far from civilization, your engine is the only source that could continuously provide heat. Heat is an important necessity in case of an emergency.
  • Snow tires and chains – Many people who live in the mountains year round have two sets of tires. Ones used in the summer and ones used in the winter. Winter tires have more tread and are better suited for driving on snow, ice, and wet roads.
  • Basic Supplies – It’s always smart to have supplies that can be used in the case of an emergency regardless of where you are driving. A few items that are beneficial if driving in the mountains are a snow brush, blanket, shovel, washer fluid, and jumper cables.
  • Drive Slow! – Driving with caution is always a good idea when on icy roads. Having to slam on the brakes or making sharp turns can cause spinning out increasing the chance of getting into an accident.

Remember to be safe on the roads this winter. Keep in mind that Peak 1 Express offers safe, direct, and affordable transportation to and from the Denver International Airport to Breckenridge and any other Summit County destination.
