If you’re still juggling around destinations for your vacation this year, consider heading to the beautiful state of Colorado.  Kayak recently named Denver the #6 Most Popular Destination, AND one of the most wallet-friendly.

There’s an endless amount of adventure scattered around this cultural mile-high city.  Paired with fun events and fantastic food, Denver is perfect for a wide variety of people and groups.

Red Rocks Amphitheater

Located in Morrison, Colorado, this breathtaking outdoor venue is located under half an hour southwest of downtown Denver.  A large span of artists show off their skills on this one-of-a-kind stage every year and many flock from all across the country to enjoy.  The scarlet rock structures surrounding the venue create a majestic backdrop to your favorite band, and you’ll get to dance under the stars all evening.

Mountain Towns only an Hour Away

Don’t just settle for a city vacation… there are many mountain towns just an hour or two away from Denver.  Make your stay in Colorado memorable by venturing through the Rockies for a few days.  During the winter, ski resorts are scattered among these towns, and the summer yields beautiful sunny days with plenty of hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, and more.

  • Breckenridge: 1 1/2 hours
  • Keystone: 1 1/2 hours
  • Vail: 1 3/4 hours

Peak 1 Express offers mountain shuttles from the Denver Airport up to Summit County and Vail Valley.  Taking a shuttle eliminates battling interstate traffic and parking fees in these towns.

Whitewater Rafting in Idaho Springs

What is a trip to Colorado in the summer without some notorious whitewater rapids?  Idaho Springs is only 30 minutes west of downtown Denver on I-70, and Clear Creek is a popular river to run since you’re only moments away from the big city.  AVA Rafting & Zipline paddles through rapids from beginner level to advanced on Clear Creek, and they also have a Cliffside Zipline and Via Ferrata tour in Idaho Springs.

Roxborough State Park

If you’re in the mood to get out in nature and see more stone structures much like those at Red Rocks, Roxborough should be added to your bucket list.  This 4,000 acre park is about 45 minutes south of Denver and attracts every level of hiker to it’s boundaries.  If you have your furry friend with you, scratch this destination.  Colorado is striving to preserve Roxborough’s natural state, and eliminating camping and pets on it’s trails helps with this tremendously.
