When Does Ski Season End in Colorado?

As we turn the corner into spring, skies are lighter, days longer, and spirits higher, yet this warmer weather does not mean an end to ski season in Colorado! Locals and visitors have until the end of May to hit the mountain and get their favorite runs in, as ski Season in Colorado ends between April and June 2023, depending on the resort.

Although late season skiing can be characterized by unfavorable conditions, this last month of spring skiing can also bring with it some of the best days on the mountain as we ride through bluebird days with soft turns and plenty of sunshine. Layers shed, we can often ride in just a t-shirt or hoodie, soaking up the sun from off the snow. This means, however, that it is important as ever to wear and reapply your sunscreen!

Keystone resort is one of the first to close its doors on April 16, 2023, not leaving much time left to get that ski rush of adrenaline pumping through your veins. Other mountains closing for the season on April 16, 2023, are Steamboat and Beaver Creek. If you haven’t visited these mountains yet this year, you have just a couple of days left to take advantage of their unique runs and features! Beaver Creek offers runs over the town, providing scenic mountain-top views.

Next for staying open until the end of April is  Vail Ski resort, closing on April 23, 2023. I love the Eagle County Valley-it is beautiful, full of great food, and a place that is worth a visit!

Second to last, we have Copper Mountain, closing its doors on May 7th, 2023. Copper is unique in that it is located right off I-70 and provides views of these skiers and snowboarders having a blast. Copper will also celebrate the end of the season with Sunsation- a spring event on April 22 and 23, 2023 featuring pond skimming, giveaways, and concerts! Pond skimming entails skiers or riders coasting down the mountain and across a waterfilled pool or pond.

Breckenridge Ski Resort closes in May with an exact date as yet to be determined. If you are looking to get in some final runs, Breckenridge still has almost all its lifts and trails open. The resort is easily accessible from the town of Breckenridge, with two gondolas you can take directly up to the ski resort itself. Be sure to book your rentals with our favorite local ski shop, Breckenridge Ski & Sport! Choose from a beginner, intermediate, or demo ski or snowboard rental, and they will get you set up with the perfect gear for your day on the slopes.

Finally, the Colorado resort with the longest season is Arapahoe Basin (A-Basin), which closes on June 4th, 2023. I personally love this area for its beautiful views that overlook the valley from the mountain tops, with views that only enhance the thrill of riding!

Still get your end of the season skiing in and avoid I-70 traffic with a ride from Peak 1 Express. Take at advantage of our convenient shuttle services throughout Summit County and the Vail Valley, and we will get you to your favorite mountain destination just in time to make the most of your last runs!

If you do miss the end of ski and snowboarding season, not to worry! As the weather gets warmer, there are plenty of other outdoor activities you can find in Colorado.
