While Breckenridge is world famous for its skiing in the winter, it is also makes for a wonderful family vacation in the summer. If you are bringing the kids up to the mountains, there is plenty of entertainment for the whole family to enjoy. Here are six great activities for kids this summer in Breckenridge.
Horseback Riding
Hiking is a popular activity in Breckenridge but for those with younger kids it can become a taxing event, leaving the whole family exhausted after just an hour on the trail. Putting those kids on a horse and venturing through the backcountry becomes an exciting adventure. Breckenridge Stables and the Rusty Spurr Ranch in Kremmling offer scenic horseback rides that the whole family can enjoy. One of the most fun and relaxing ways to take in the Rocky Mountain beauty of Colorado is on horseback.
Ice Skating
Even in the summer its nice to cool off and put some ice skates on. The Stephen C West ice arena offers skating to the public and on some days special events all generations will enjoy. Ice skating isn’t the only activity you can partake in at the area, they also do disco skate nights and curling lessons.
Learn or Create
Breckenridge has many different activities that will be fun and also work their brain! The Mountain Top Children’s Museum gives kids the opportunity to learn about the environment and wildlife of the Rocky Mountains, learn about the human body in the medical center where the kids can but on scrubs and examine x-rays, put on hardhats and build their own creations in the “Kidstruction Zone”, or participate in many more programs the museum offers. Another great opportunity to learn is with BRECK Create in the Breckenridge Arts District. BRECK Create offers workshops/classes, family tours, and summer camps that every kid will love!
Highline Railroad Park and Playground
Located at the Stephen C West Ice arena, the High Line Railroad Park is the perfect place to let the kids use up some of the excess energy. This park has a great playground that every child will enjoy. Slides, monkey bars, and much more will keep a smile on your kids face. There is also a real retired train that sits on old tracks you can explore.
Whitewater Rafting
Colorado is home to some of the best rafting in the country and Breckenridge is in a great central location to many rivers. The Blue River is the only commercially rafted whitewater in Summit County and the Breckenridge area, but just an hour south is where the Arkansas River is located. You also have the option of all levels of whitewater on Clear Creek and the Eagle River. For those with younger kids, try looking into the Colorado River. The Class II rapids are mild but splashy and will still provide a fun time on the water.
Breck Epic Discovery
Epic Discovery has it all. Found on the mountain where you would be skiing in the winter, Epic Discovery offers an alpine slide, tubing, rock climbing, a ropes course, a bounce house, bungee trampoline, zipline, the gold runner coaster, and everything else kids dream of.
