Now that the blistering cold and heavy snow storms are behind us it’s time to start thinking about and planning your summer time activities. The first holiday of the summer season is Cinco de Mayo, which offers a taste of the Mexican culture and is in honor of their defense against the French in the battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. This holiday typically includes cervezas, delicious Mexican food and copious amounts of Margaritas, but there is much more to do on Cinco de Mayo than enjoy good food with good company. This year’s Cinco de Mayo in the Rockies is shaping up to be one of the best in history for Colorado.
Colorado celebrates Cinco de Mayo around the state, promising that no matter where you are in the state you are not to far off from a sweet Cinco de Mayo festivity. Denver will be hosting the largest festival, kicking off on May 7th and continuing through the weekend offering a taco eating contest, 29th annual Cinco de Mayo parade and live music. For those more interested in being in nature opposed to a packed street festival, look no further than the Cinco de Mayo Meltdown Disc Golf Tournament. This is 3rd annual event held by PDGA and will host about 180 amateur and professional players at this years event. Those in the mountains come check out 32nd annual Cinco de Mayo festival hosted by Mi Casa in Breckenridge for authentic Mexican food and live mariachi music.
