Enjoying the shoulder season in Summit County
A lot of people call late April and early May in Summit County “mud season” because the snow is melting, the mountains are closed, and there’s not a lot going on around town. But the negative name doesn’t do this time of year justice – even though events are winding down, mud season is the perfect time to get great deals on everything from lodging to food to ski gear for next year.

Because tourism tends to drop off this time of year, you’ll probably be able to get a screamin’ deal on a hotel room or rental property. Numerous properties are offering 25% to 40% off lodging in April which means you’ll have extra cash to spend on fun this vacation.
Dining
Locals across the county wait for mud season so that they can take advantage of two-for-one dining specials. You can too! Check the listings in the free local paper to find out who’s offering a deal each night and save big on meals.
Shopping
With the changing of the seasons, most of the local shops are trying to get rid of their winter inventory. In particular, winter sporting goods shops will be trying to clear skis, snowboards, boots, and soft goods to make way for summer equipment. If you’re hoping to get an amazing deal on a new pair of skis or a new outfit for next winter, now’s the time to shop in Breckenridge.
