February is a great month to be in Summit County! The snow storms are getting stronger, the days are getting longer, and there are a ton of local events to look forward to. In addition to Mardi Gras, Valentine’s Day, and Presidents’ Day weekend, a host of ski and snow board competitions round out the excitement.  Plus, you’ll be beating the March spring break crowds.

Winter Bluegrass Festival, Keystone, February 1-2

Enjoy back-to-back nights of Colorado bluegrass from The Mossgatherers, Taarka, The Pine Beatles, and The Haunted Windchimes.  Bring your own instrument for the pre-concert jam session, then kick back and enjoy the show!

USASA Rocky Mountain Series-Boardercross & Skicross Competition, Copper Mountain, February 1-3

High class competition on Copper’s new Vein Glory race course for all ability levels from first time racers to World Cup medalists and X Gamers. Join the excitement or stop by to watch the competitors in action!  February 3rd will also include the Adaptive Boardercross Race for riders with disabilities.

Mardi Gras Ball, Breckenridge, February 9

Turn out in your finest formal wear or just bring a mask and a pair of jeans to Beaver Run this February.  Anything goes at the Mardi Gras ball!  Live entertainment, dancing, and authentic food and drink make for a one-of-a-kind Summit County celebration.

Transworld TransAM Competition, Keystone, February 9

This unique snowboarding competition celebrates its 11th year in 2012-13, and its stop in Keystone will bring music, prizes, and plenty of great snowboarding as riders continue to push the envelope.  Sponsored by Skullcandy.

Mardi Gras Parade, Breckenridge, February 12

Follow the fun and festive floats down Main Street to Park Avenue.  Locals and visitors alike turn out in droves with beads, boas, masks and more to celebrate Mardi Gras.  Plenty of food, drink and lodging specials will be available for the week, as well.

Mardi Gras Gumbo Competition, Keystone, February 12

A special Mardi Gras cook-off!  Taste the competitors’ amazing gumbo recipes, and this year, a beignet competition has been added to the mix. Da Hoodoo men will be performing live, so stick around for tasting, judging, and the concert.  Or dust off your favorite recipes, and enter the competition!

Breck Ascent Series, Breckenridge, February 13

Test your speed and endurance at over 10,000 feet!  Race up the mountain in one of five hill climbs then see how fast you can get back down. Competitors can use any method they prefer to get up the mountain (AT setup, snowshoes, etc) but must ski or snowboard down. This fun event is sure to get your heart racing!

Valentine’s Day Comedy, Silverthorne, February 14

Laugh it up this year at the Silverthorne Pavilion’s annual comedy show featuring Phil Palisoul and Bryan Kellen.  Before you go, check out the myriad Valentine’s Day dining specials around the county or consider the Starlight dinner series at Ten Mile Station in Breckenridge to make this an evening to remember!

Fat Saturday En Fuego, Copper Mountain, February 16

Fat Tuesday, Copper Mountain-style. Celebrate Mardi Gras with music, dancing, a parade and fireworks!  Beads and masks will be given out throughout the village and mountain over the course of the day, and plenty of food and drink specials will be available at Copper’s restaurants and bars.

Woodward Rail Jam, Copper Mountain, February 16

Rounding out the Mardi Gras celebration at Copper is the evening rail jam at Woodward – the indoor freestyle training center.  Killer tricks and great prizes!

Winter Wine Weekend, Keystone, February 16-17

Enjoy amazing New Zealand food, over 20 varieties of wine, a cooking demonstration with Chef Chris Rybak, and live music.  A great opportunity to learn about pairing wine with food!

Burton Mountain Festival, Keystone, February 22-24

Free fun for snow sports enthusiasts!  Burton will be at Keystone offering product demos including boots, bindings, and boards, as well as hosting terrain park events for kids, and amateur snowboard competitions. There will also be after parties, giveaways, and live music.

Hopes on the Slopes, Breckenridge, February 23

The all-day fundraising event in Breckenridge gives you the chance to do what you love (ski and ride) while raising money for the American Cancer Society. Work individually or as a team to compete in events on the mountain.
