Just because we aren’t in Mexico does not mean we can’t celebrate Cinco de Mayo here in the mountains. Cinco de Mayo means “the fifth of May” in Spanish. Now some people believe this is the date of Mexican Independence but, that is false. This day celebrates the day the Mexican army defeated the French in the Battle of Puebla. This is now a bigger day in the U.S than Mexico.
With all this being said, here in the mountains we do Cinco de Mayo big! In Breckenridge stop by Mi Casa restaurant on the 5th of May, located at 600 Park Avenue. The events will start at 5 p.m. and there will be a $25.00 entry fee for adults and a $12.00 fee for children under 12. Food, drinks and fun live music will be provided. Door prizes and a silent auction will be part of the event to help benefit the Breckenridge Outdoor Education program.
If you’re in the Vail/Beaver Creek area, you are in the right place to celebrate this holiday! Check out a bunch of events going on. Starting early at Fiesta Jalisco in Avon will be an event from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. which will include 2-for-1 Margaritas, beer buckets and fajitas!
Also, Agave in Eagle County has dollar tacos! Yum! Agave’s live music outside will start at 3 p.m. and then move inside at 8 p.m. for more live music and dancing! Last but not least, Fiesta’s, a local favorite hot spot will have live music, tasty food of course and piñatas for kids! We hope they will provide piñatas for adults too because it seems way too fun!
