Summer Events in the Rockies

One of the favorite sayings for locals in Colorado is “You’ll come for the winter, and stay because of the summer.” The obvious reason that people love Colorado in the summer in the endless amounts of outdoor opportunities available to everyone. One of the best kept secrets of those who live in this marvelous state is the abundance of parades, festivals, free shows, and competitions that occur throughout the summer months. No matter where you are in the state at least one activity is just around the corner. If you’re going to be in the Colorado, these are some of the summer events in the Rockies you really can’t miss.

Breckenridge Bike Week

This takes place June 23rd through the 25th and showcases all of the best rides and trails in the area. The event has activities for novices and adrenaline junkies alike and is a great way to the explore the outdoors and some new terrain.

4th of July in Breckenridge

This weekend is kicked off with a live music festival with local talents. A parade follows throughout the Main Street in Breckenridge. There are free events for those of all ages and even a bike race called the Firecracker 50- a 50 mile bike race right up the mountains. Fireworks over the stunning mountain peaks ends this weekend.

24th Annual BBQ Challenge

Every year in Frisco 70+ barbeque fanatics gather and test their skills against one another. Taking place this year on June 15th through the 17th you can get a taste of all the best barbeque from all over the state. Free samples are available to those who want them. There is also live music throughout the whole weekend and events for all the kids who want to enjoy them.

GoPro Mountain Games

This is a conglomeration of beginners and experts in the art, music, and athletic lovers throughout the state. June 8th through 10th in Vail you can find races down the Eagle River, free music, art showings and of course excellent food and beverage. Come wander through the streets and watch other people or join in and compete yourself, either way this is a summer event you don’t want to miss.

Many of the local towns also offer fee live music almost every weekend. Every Friday evening you can stroll along the shores of Lake Dillon while taking in some firelight from the bonfire. This is just a quick taste of events in the area because as anyone who’s been here knows Coloradans love there music, food, outdoor activities and beer and will take every chance they get to celebrate this love.
