“Tell me the facts and I’ll learn.

Tell me the truth and I’ll believe.

But tell me a story and it will live in my heart forever”

-Native American Proverb

Taking place at the Harry A. Nottingham Park Pavilion in Avon, Colorado the Tenth Mountain Storytellers is here to remind you that telling a good story is an art, and a lot of fun.

Avon, about two hours west of Denver, has tons of great events and things to enjoy. This event is one you shouldn’t miss. Tenth Mountain Story Tellers is an organization bringing together the best story tellers in the nation and our local area. The event starts Friday night, August 17, with a cocktail hour and dinner with an introduction of the storytellers. The stories will start Saturday morning. The event will have two stages, the Main Stage, and the Tent, where stories will be told throughout the day.

There are plenty of opportunities to see and hear these masters entertain but the event isn’t just about listening. There are story telling clinics as well. Focused group sessions where you will learn how to hone your own skills with feedback from experts and your fellow amateur tellers.

There are also events for kids. Sandy Fuller, a children’s author for the past 45 years will be there to entertain the little ones. Among the Featured Tellers is Jessica Tuck, an actress known from True Blood and Judging Amy. Tuck was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for her work on the soap opera One Life To Live.

Brothers Karey and Wayne Kirkpatrick will be sharing some of their stories. Karey is a film director and screenwriter and made film adaptations of James and the Giant Peach and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. While Karey made films, his brother Wayne made music, producing and writing for music stars including Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, Peter Frampton, Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, and Little Big Town. Another featured act is Shelagh Ratner, who was on season 9 of Last Comic Standing. While these performers have told us stories through their acting, directing, songwriting, and comedy, they and the other performers are excited to show us how stories can be told in a captivating way face to face.

Be sure to bring the kiddos to this event because it features Colorado native Sandy Fuller as the Children’s Teller. Sandy has been writing children’s books for over 45 years. Among the many jobs she holds in the publishing world her true passion is creating her own stories, which often include music and puppets. These are sure to keep your kids entertained.

Different tickets are available, from single day passes to weekend VIP. The event starts this weekend so don’t wait!
