February is a busy month in Breckenridge, Colorado, and winter activities enthusiasts from all over the world flock to this quaint ski village to participate in the many Breckenridge events that take place during this prime ski and snowboarding month. Many lucky skiers get to enjoy a long weekend if they don’t have to work President’s Day, which is Monday, February 20 this year. Always celebrated the third Monday in February, this patriotic holiday gives you some extra time to enjoy time on the slopes or attend some of the popular Breckenridge CO events going on President’s Day weekend.

February Events in Breckenridge
Because the Breckenridge events calendar for February 2012 is so extensive, we can’t list everything that’s going on, but here are some of the highlights coming soon:Breckenridge Event Calendar

February 1: Snow Carvers Movie at the Speakeasy Theater at 5:00 p.m. Watch fifteen teams from around the world compete in the International Snow Sculpture Championship, in which expert carvers have 65 hours to create an exquisite work of art from a 14-foot, 20-ton block of snow using only hand tools! Cost is $10.00 and is fun for all ages.

February 1 (and every Wednesday in February): Enjoy Wine & Cheese Wednesdays at Ridge Street Wine/Breckenridge Cheese and Chocolate on 304 South Main Street. Sample various wines, cheeses and tapanades in a friendly atmosphere where you can meet new friends or hang out with ski buddies you’ve known for years. Every Wednesday from 5-7 p.m.

February 10: Breckenridge Recreation Center offers lots of physical activities such as cycling at 6:15 a.m.; Zumba at 7:45 a.m.; Tae Kwon Do at 10:00 a.m.; Mat Pilates at 11:10 a.m.; Body Pump at 12:10 p.m. and Yoga at 5:30 p.m. Located at 880 Airport Road, the Breckenridge Recreation Center is great indoor reprieve when you take a break from the slopes.

February 10: Classes at Meta Yoga Studies for the Yoga enthusiast in your group start at 6:30 a.m. and run all day. Call Meta Yoga Studios at 970.547.YOGA for specific times and classes as they are subject to change.

February 11: The Metropolitan Opera in High Definition begins at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 1:00. The National Repertory Orchestra and the Colorado Mountain College performance is something you don’t want to miss. Come in from the cold and enjoy this moving performance. Cost is $20 and Seniors and MET members pay only $16. Located at Colorado Mountain College at 107 Denison Placer Road in Breckenridge.

February 18: Bacchus Ball from 6-10 p.m. at Beaver Run Resorts. The Breckenridge Ballroom will play host to an evening filled with dancing, drinks, fantastic New Orleans cuisine and the crowning of Rex and Queen! You can wear a Mardi Gras costume, formal gown or a pair of jeans! Anything goes when it comes to Breckenridge party attire! For $45.00 you get a huge New Orleans style buffet dinner and a cash bar. You can buy beads, boas, masks and other Mardi Gras accessories to bring Cajun Country to Summit County.

Restaurant/Bar specials all weekend including: Spencer’s Restaurant, Base 9 Bar, The Sloppy Dog, Ollie’s Pub and Grub, Cecilia’s and pwl tournaments at Brooklyn’s Billiards.

February 21: Mardi Gras Parade begins at 4:30 on Main Street in Breckenridge and will head south to Park Avenue. If you want to participate, contact Heidi DeWitt at 970.453.5055 now.

February 25: Your second chance to catch the magic of the National Repertory Orchestra and the Colorado Mountain College. Watch them perform Verdi’s Ernani at 10:55 a.m. at Colorado Mountain College.
