The Best Night Skiing in Colorado
There aren’t many resorts around Colorado that offer night skiing, but those that do are a hotspot after the sun sets on winter evenings. If you had to work all day and missed out on some daylight hours of powder, check out the resorts that extend their ski day for some after dark runs.
Keystone Resort
Keystone resort boasts the longest ski day in the state of Colorado when their night skiing is open. Hang out at The Summit House to watch the sun set over the slopes, then keep riding until as late as 8:00 PM. The world-famous terrain park, Area 51, is open until 6:00 PM on these nights so stay a little longer and try throwing some threes. The best part about night riding at Keystone is you don’t have to purchase a new ticket; your pass or day ticket is enough to cover you sunset excursions as well.
Steamboat Springs
Steamboat Springs, home to the trademarked term “Champagne Powder”, is a popular destination for those looking to head a bit further west to this hidden snow globe. The mountain just recently introduced night skiing to the town in 2014, and can be enjoyed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights throughout the winter.
Howelsen Hill
Also located in Steamboat Springs, the Howelsen Hill Ski area is open for night skiing Tuesday through Friday nights. Although this is a city-run ski area, they don’t skimp on the night skiing essentials. With 15 trails open during the after dark hours and 440 vertical feet available to explore, you’re sure to enjoy your evening on Howelsen. There is also snow tubing and ice skating for those not too keen on skiing.
Winter Park
Winter Park offers their own take on night skiing with nighttime ski bike tours. You’ll get three hours on the slopes in the evening to explore via ski bike. Winter Park provides all equipment needed with the a purchase of a ticket, including headlamps, helmets, glasses, and visibility vests.
Purgatory Resort
Normally, Purgatory Resort offers skiing under the stars, but with the lack of snow in the Durango area this year we presume they are holding off. You’ll get to explore the slopes around Lift 7 on Purgatory after hours once they begin their night skiing, so check back in a few weeks to see if you can explore the mountain once the sun sets!
