There are so many beautiful places to visit during the holidays in Colorado, it is almost impossible to narrow down which are best. We gave it a good shot, and here’s what we came up with for our top 3 best Colorado towns for Christmas vacation.
Breckenridge, Colorado
A town like no other, and full of amazing history, Breckenridge is located right at the base of Breckenridge Ski Resort. There is even a gondola that begins right in the center of town. Breck begins its Christmas season with a town lighting ceremony during the first week of December. Enjoy some free hot cocoa with your loved ones as you watch this stunningly beautiful historic Victorian town become engulfed in gorgeous twinkling lights. Throughout the rest of December, enjoy a plethora of fun Christmas themed activities for all ages and interests from ornament painting to sleigh rides and caroling.
Georgetown, Colorado
Located just 45 minutes west of the Denver area, Georgetown definitely does Christmas the right way. The famous Georgetown Christmas Market runs 7th, 8th, 13th, and 14th. Take a step back in time with horse drawn carriages, hot roasted chestnuts, free holiday entertainment, and an outdoor European market! Don’t forget about Winter on the Water at Washington Harbor either. Celebrating the opening of Georgetown’s newest ice rick there will be ice skating performances, live music, and also a parade.
Durango, Colorado
The Christmas celebration in downtown Durango is so big it has it’s own name. Holidazzle begins the day after Thanksgiving and continues through New Year’s Day. Enjoy the Christmas classics of caroling, cookies, and sleigh rides through beautiful downtown Durango, or try something new. The Polar Express departs right from the center of town and continues to the North Pole to pick up Santa before heading back to town where each child receives their very own Santa bell. Based on the famous Polar Express children’s book, this is an adventure no child will ever forget.
