The end of the winter season is near.  Though we’ve thoroughly enjoyed some mid-40 degree sunny days, we’re pretty upset about the ski resorts shutting their lifts down.  If you haven’t gotten in all of your turns yet this season, now is the time to do it! Ski resorts go out of their way to make their closing days memorable… so here’s where you should be the next few weekends.

April 15th

Beaver Creek Closing Day

Head to the Family Fun Fest Carnival with the family this weekend to play some games and possible win some prizes!  You also can’t forget to indulge in one last Cookie Time at Beaver Creek before the ski slopes close their doors.

Copper Mountain Closing Day

Throw on your best retro ski gear to support the fundraiser at Copper Mountain on closing day!  This Sunday the High Fives Foundation and Phunkshun Wear will be taking laps on American Eagle list to raise money for injured sports athletes based on mountains.  Afterward, watch the Red Bull Slopesoakers competition and observe skiers and snowboarders hitting rails like you’ve never seen before.

Vail Closing Day

Live music, a Bud Light bags tournament, and a World Pond Skimming Championship await you this weekend as Vail wraps up their season with a splash.  There’s even a few inches of snow predicted for Friday evening, so hopefully a few powder turns are on the books to properly send Vail out with a bang.

April 22nd

Breckenridge Closing Day

Watch some ultimate athletes take on the 2018 Imperial Challenge this year on Saturday, April 21st. This pseudo triathlon starts off with a bike ride and ends with participants ascending to two different locations of the Breckenridge Ski Resort.  Head to the base of Peak 8 on Sunday, April 22nd for the Breck Plunge pond skim, live music, food and drinks.

If you’re still trying to get out there on your skis, Arapahoe Basin Ski Area has some life left in it.  Generally, their slopes stay open til the end of May or early June.  Though everyone is getting into the summer mindset, you can still enjoy an afternoon cruising down the hill.

This upcoming portion of spring season in the high country is tremendously overlooked but holds the trophy for some of the best things about Breckenridge and other mountain towns.  Who wouldn’t want to venture around without having to worry about the crowds?  With plenty of hikes, fishing, and the beginning of the mountain biking season right around the corner, you can enjoy some great outdoor activities and you’ll feel like you almost have the whole place to yourself.

Book a getaway to the Colorado Rockies over the next month and take advantage of less crowds while you still can!  Peak 1 Express will transport you right to the door of your destination so you won’t have to think twice about rental cars or cramming in on a bus up to Summit County.
