Popular Winter Activities in Colorado

Home > Beaver Creek > Popular Winter Activities in Colorado

When it comes to the most popular winter sports in Colorado, we all know that snowboarding and skiing top the list.  As for other snowy activities to get you away from the slopes for the day, the state is full of them.  Check out these outdoor pastimes and add them to your schedule next time you visit!

Ice Skating in Colorado

Throw on some skates and get on the ice this winter!  This fun family activity can be found at almost every ski town in the high country, as well as multiple locations on the front range.  Whether you’re traveling to Summit County, Vail Valley, or the Denver area, there are plenty of options for ice coasting during the winter.

Keystone

At the Keystone Ski Resort in Summit County, you can skate on the largest Zamboni maintained outdoor rink in North America at Keystone’s Lakeside Village.

Breckenridge

Jump just over 25 miles southwest of Keystone to Breckenridge, Colorado to check out the Stephen C. West Ice Arena.  They offer skating sessions almost every day with lessons for every age and level.  Indoor and outdoor rinks give you options, especially when the winter weather rolls in.

Beaver Creek

Make your way to the Beaver Creek Resort to skate the Black Family Ice Rink.  Nestled in the heart of Beaver Creek’s Village, this outdoor rink is a perfect way to wrap up your day under the stars and twinkling string lights.

Denver

Change up the scenery and skate among Denver’s concrete jungle at Skyline Park.  Gliding on the ice is free here, and you have the option to bring your own skates or rent some for a small fee.

Dog Sledding in Colorado

This classic mountain sport will get you mushing through the Rockies to some breathtaking views of the snow-capped peaks surrounding you.  Brave the chilly temperatures and bundle up for some fun with the whole family!

Vail

If you are traveling to the Vail Valley area, check out Mountain Musher Dog Sled Rides. They’ve been operating since 1989 with friendly dogs and beautiful scenic trails.

Steamboat Springs

Grizzle-T Dog & Sled Works in Steamboat Springs offers two unique trails to choose from.  The West trail offers a “Drive Your Own Dog Team” half day adventure that covers over 12 miles of terrain.  Every adult will have the chance to take the reigns.  The South Trail, an 8-mile venture along the Stagecoach Reservoir, offers a guided tour as well as a Drive Your Own Dog tour.

Breckenridge

If you’re heading to Summit County, check out Good Times Adventures located in Breckenridge, Colorado.  A six mile tour of the Swan River Valley will give you the chance to try your hand at mushing alongside an experienced guide.

Tubing in Colorado

Sled down the hills of the Rocky Mountains with this timeless activity.  The high country offers plenty of maintained sledding slopes, most with lifts to take you back up the hill!

Frisco

The hill at Frisco Adventure Park has 1,200-foot-long lanes with a surface lift taking you back to the top for endless fun.

Keystone

Another great Summit County tubing hill is at Keystone Resort at Adventure Point.  It’s the world’s highest tubing with multiple lanes that increase in speed and steepness.  They even have a free mini tubing lane for the little ones.

Winter Park

The Coca-Cola® Tube Park in Winter Park is home to 4 sled lanes with banked curves and a convenient conveyor lift back to the top.  You can even warm up in the cozy Hill House lodge between runs!
