Opening Days for Colorado’s Mountains

As the mountains begin to freeze and snow becomes more and more frequent you know ski season is right around the corner. The end of August brought cool air and high moisture that gave Breckenridge its first couple of blankets for the season. Although the snow did melt within 3-5 days, you can’t help but daydream about the potential of this upcoming February. As Colorado resorts are known their lengthy and deep winters, this season is shaping up to be no different, with the first resorts opening their lifts on 10/27/16.

Arapahoe Basin and Loveland Opening Days 2016

Arapahoe Basin and Loveland ski areas will kick off this winter season this October as the first resorts to open in North America. Although they are the first to open, there is a long and distinguished list of world-class resorts opening just a couple days later in early to mid-November.

Next on the list is Keystone Resort, opening on 11/5, followed by Breckenridge Resort and Copper Mountain opening on 11/11. The final push for large resort openings around the state will happen between 11/16 and 11/26 with Vail, Beaver Creek, Telluride, Winter Park and Aspen all opening in late November, just in time for the holiday weekend!

As the snow begins to roll in and driving conditions diminish throughout the winter, make sure you plan your rides ahead of time and leave driving to the professionals. Shared shuttles to and from the airport are the preferred route for guests visiting mountain towns, as typically it is cheaper than renting a car and safer for the whole family as these drivers take this route multiple times a week.
