Last Sunday, October 13th, marked the beginning of the ski season in Colorado and for most of the country. Arapahoe Basin opened its mountain to 3,000 plus skiers and riders and will stay open until late spring 2014. A-Basin won the race for the second year in a row over Loveland Ski Area to become the first resort to open for the season in Colorado. Some may argue they are the first to open in the country because they remain operational for the winter. Crystal Mountain in Washington received an astonishing 22” of snow on September 30th allowing them to open their resort on October 1st for one day only. So even though A-Basin wasn’t the first ski resort in the country to turn their lifts, they are the first to allow skiers and riders lift access on a consistent basis.http://www.mattalbertsphotography.com

Coming in a close second is Loveland Ski Area. Slated to open its resort to the public this Thursday, October 17th, Loveland will be looking to have three runs available to the public; Catwalk, Mambo and Home Run with more expected to open soon after. A-Basin also looks to open more runs as the temperatures remain low enough for snow making and as mother nature produces more snow fall.

The upcoming ski season is looking good so far and we can only hope for more snow to fall and grace us with its much important presence this winter. Other notable ski areas to open soon are Keystone and Copper (Nov. 1st), Breckenridge (Nov. 8th) and Vail (Nov. 22nd). If you are traveling to one of these resorts during the early season, make sure to book your airport transportation today and save. Peak 1 Express is the safest, cheapest and most reliable shuttle service that can get you to your next ski resort fast!
