Take in the action from start to finish!
If you don’t live in an area where there is much snow, you may not be aware of all of the fun things you can do with it. As kids, when there is a snow storm you build snowmen, have snowball fights, try to build an igloo like you see on television, etc. What you may not realize is that something much more extravagant can come out of the snow, like a delicately carved ice sculpture.
Breckenridge is hosting the 23rd annual Budweiser International Snow Sculpting Championships from January 22 to February 3. This is an event that the locals wait for each year and make sure not to miss. From the 22nd to the 26th artists from all over the world will be sculpting their own blocks of ice. The artists stay up day and night to finish their detailed work in time for the deadline on January 26 at 10 am. You can donate $1 to the competition to vote for your favorite piece of snow work! Don’t miss the announcement of the winners at 3pm on Saturday Jan 26. There are several categories that the sculptors can win for. The next week is viewing week. It is from January 26th through February 3rd and everyone is welcome to walk by and view all of the remarkable snow sculptures at no cost.
The Snow Sculpture Championships is not something to be missed. Whether you are here for a long vacation or a day trip, make sure you make a point to stop by the Riverwalk Center and watch the artists create their masterpieces. It is something unique that you may not get the opportunity to see again, unless of course you come back to the great town of Breckenridge next winter.
