Vail’s 12th annual film festival is coming up!

The unique combination of creativity from first-time moviemakers and potential movie stars makes for a great experience. Film screenings, panel discussions, live music, nightly galas and the filmmaker reception are different activities and events that you’ll find at the film festival. This event is run by the Colorado Film Institute which is a non-profit arts organization with an emphasis on the independent film industry. The Colorado Film Institute’s primary goal is to promote the art in film by providing screening for up and coming filmmakers as well as creating a gathering place for film fanatics. The Colorado Film Institute also provides these filmmakers with ensight  by educating them on the many different aspects of the industry. This festival draws aspiring filmmakers because it is an opportunity for them to get their foot in the door with the higher levels in the film industry.

Synopsis: “Forced onto the streets in her 50s, Marie ‘Mimi’ Haist found ‘home’ between two rows of washers at a Santa Monica laundromat. Taking shelter there for more than 20 years, Mimi’s passion for pink, and living without looking back, has taken her from homelessness to Hollywood’s red carpets.”

The festival starts at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 26th with the opening night film Manhattan Romance at the Cascade followed by the opening night party at The Lodge at Vail. There will be film screenings starting at 11:00 a.m. running all the way to 11:00pm on Friday and Saturday at the Cascade, Marriott, and Vail Mountain School. While the screenings are going on there will be a hospitality lounge open on both days from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Don’t forget about the Friday night concert where Hotel Cafe will be returning to the Marriott. You can enjoy complimentary beer and drinks while listening to these talented musicians. The awards ceremony will take place at Vail Mountain School at 6:30 p.m. followed by the closing night film. The closing night party will be taking place at the Marriott. In case you haven’t watched enough films, the final day of screenings is Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Cascade and Marriott.
