Mardi Gras is such a cool occasion. The definition of Mardi Gras is a “carnival held in some countries on shrove tuesday” (the day before ash wednesday). Most of us are familiar with it in New Orleans. Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday” alluding for the last day of feasting before the Catholic tradition of the fast of lent. New Orleans does it big but here up in the mountains we like to celebrate the New Orleans way! Here is a lowdown of places to celebrate Mardi Gras in the mountains.

Summit county puts on quite a party for Mardi Gras starting this week! Mardi Gras is the 17th of February but start partying early with these awesome events:

February 14th: 

  • Frisco Main Street is hosting a  Mardi Paws Barkus Parade. The event is hosted by the town of Frisco, The League for Animals and People of the Summit (LAPS) — a local nonprofit that supports Summit County residents and their pets — and the Lost Cajun restaurant. Dress up your pup for this awesome dog oriented event.

February 17th:Breckenridge Fat Tuesday

  • The Fat tuesday celebration in Breckenridge is on the 17th. Start it off right with filling your tummy with authentic New orleans cuisine at local Lost Cajun or the Picnic in the plaza! That starts at 11 a.m. and runs till 5 p.m. in Blue river plaza. Once you’re full of yummy food head over and watch our towns awesome Mardi Gras street celebration on Main Street. The whole street will be blocked off so that you can party in style. There will be enough Mardi Gras Mask and beads to keep you entertained for the whole parade!
  • Keystone’s annual gumbo cook off and Mardi Gras parade is another great place to be this Mardi Gras. 10$ gets you free tastings to all the gumbo competitors delicious soup and there is beads, floats and lots of tasty beverages! Beignets are also going to be there!
