Now that summer has stepped out of the room, we can finally start talking about winter! Not that we don’t like everything about summer, such as, its warmth, excitement and endless possibilities for outdoor fun, but we absolutely love winter. With an early October snowstorm beginning to blanket Colorado’s highest peaks and mountain towns, it’s difficult to not get excited about the upcoming ski and snowboard season. Let Peak 1 Express be your guide to opening day at Colorado’s ski areas with the following helpful information.
Arapahoe Basin
Usually the earliest ski resort to open shop in Colorado, Abay, as the locals refer to it, will be opening up relatively soon. There isn’t yet a solidified date set for opening day, but with all of the snowmaking and natural snow that has fallen there, Abay is on track to be the first resort open for the 2014/2015 season. Keep checking out their Facebook page for update info.
Loveland
Abay and Loveland duke it out each year, in an effort to be the first publicly accessible terrain in the state. Loveland hasn’t yet announced their opening date for the upcoming season, but typically, the resort opens sometime in mid-October. Sign up on their website to be notified, via Email, with the opening day announcement!
Copper Mountain
With an abundance of water left over from the 2013/2014 snowsports season, Copper Mountain was able to get off to a super early start, with their snowmaking. With the early October snow making kickoff, Copper is well on its way to having one of the best bases for the upcoming season. Copper is slated to open on Halloween, so get your costume prepped for the cold and we’ll scare you there!
Keystone
Keystone will be the first Vail Resort open for the 2014/2015 season. Like Copper, opening day is scheduled for October 31, 2014. So, if you’ve already gotten your Epic Pass, get your ski legs in shape and plan an early season trip to Keystone.
Breckenridge
One of the most popular resorts in Colorado, and definitely the most visited resort in Summit County, Breckenridge won’t be too far behind the rest of the areas resorts. The resort is planning to start turning its lifts on November 7, 2014. It’s only one week after Copper and Keystone, so there’s no need to worry about missing out on the first turns of the season if you’re headed to Breckenridge this year.
Vail & Beaver Creek
Due to their lower elevations, Vail and Beaver Creek will be just a few weeks behind Breckenridge opening day. Vail is scheduled to open its slopes on November 21st and Beaver Creek on November 26th.
With resorts opening up nearly each week from now until Thanksgiving, it is possible to get first tracks at a different resort for each upcoming Friday! Plan your early skiing and snowboarding now and get a head start at getting in shape for the season, and avoid the crowds.
